Beijing expects China's resumption of outbound group tours to benefit global tourism and recovery

The resumption of China’s outbound group tours will benefit global tourism and do good to global economic recovery, said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning at a press briefing in Beijing on Tuesday.

Starting Monday, China resumed outbound group tours tentatively to 20 countries, including Thailand, the Maldives, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Russia and New Zealand. The move, announced in January, sparked a frenzy of trip planning and saw online searches for overseas destinations spike.

“We have noticed the first batch of Chinese outbound tour groups had arrived in Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Singapore, the UAE, Egypt and other pilot countries yesterday. All these countries warmly welcomed the arrivals of Chinese tourists. We also hope the relevant countries to provide Chinese tourists with safe and convenient environment and conditions,” Mao said.
“After a hiatus of three years, China has resumed outbound group tours, which will help revive the global tourism market and inject dynamic force to the post-pandemic recovery of the world economy. At the recently held ASEAN Tourism Forum 2023, all the ASEAN countries expressed their expectations that the return of Chinese tourists will promote the strong recovery of the region’s tourism industry. The cold winter is bound to end, and the spring is within the expectations. With the gradual and orderly resumption of outbound tours, China will continue to enhance personnel and economic exchanges with other countries in the world and inject more confidence and strength for global economic recovery,” she said.
